Domain Student Accommodation

Domain was formed in 1998 by Moorfield in response to the significant gap in the market for affordable student and key worker accommodation.  It develops and operates high quality, purpose built accommodation close to universities or workplace locations.

Moorfield manages the development and operation of all Domain schemes from identifying and acquiring the site through design, financing, planning, construction, marketing, opening and then operating the scheme.  Sites are identified following a detailed analysis of cities with established higher educational facilities and the quantity and quality existing alternative accommodation.

All the schemes provide high quality city centre accommodation in a secure and comfortable environment that is designed to be highly energy efficient.  The buildings are generally laid out in cluster-flats of four to six bedrooms, each with en-suite bathrooms and a communal kitchen/living area that is comprehensively equipped.  Domain is responsible for the operation of some schemes, providing a comprehensive and responsive service to residents via a 24 hour on-site management, security and maintenance team.

  • Between 2000 and 2006, Domain developed and opened 7 student accommodation schemes (Atlantic Point, Liverpool; Severn Point, Cardiff; Prospect Point, Liverpool; Mill Point, Manchester; Trinity Point, Coventry; Quay Point, Newcastle; and Cambrian Point, Cardiff), which it then sold to Liberty Living in 2006.
  • Domain also acquired the IES Kings Road, London site in joint venture with IES in 2005. This was then sold in 2011.
  • In 2010 Domain (on behalf of MREF) completed the development of a 400 bed scheme in Winchester which was subsequently let to the university on a 40 year lease.
  • Domain is currently developing a site in Exeter (on behalf of MREF II) which will open in September 2013.

Domain remains a wholly owned subsidiary of Moorfield Group. The company continues to acquire and develop sites across the UK on its own and on behalf of funds managed by Moorfield Group..
