Moorfield sell Domain student and key worker accommodation business to Brandeaux for £190 million
Moorfield Group announces the sale of the Domain student and key worker accommodation business to the Brandeaux group of companies (“Brandeaux”) for £190 million.
The Domain business was established in 1999 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Moorfield Group and now consists of over 4,000 rooms in 7 properties which are based throughout the UK. The schemes are situated in Liverpool (Atlantic Point & Prospect Point), Cardiff (Severn Point & Cambrian Point), Coventry (Trinity Point) Manchester (Mill Point) and Newcastle-Upon-Tyne (Quay Point).
Domain is a strategic acquisition opportunity for Brandeaux and fits well within their existing portfolio as a result of the similarity of the two businesses. Brandeaux will assimilate the Domain properties and operate them under the Liberty Living brand hence promising the same operational and building standards.
The deal took only 3 weeks to complete and was an off market transaction as a result of the relationship between Moorfield Group and Brandeaux.
Moorfield Group Ltd will continue to actively look for opportunities to develop student and key worker accommodation sites. Moorfield Real Estate Fund (the real estate private equity fund set up and managed by Moorfield Group) owns a site in Loughborough which is being developed with a proposed opening date of August 2008.
Marc Gilbard, managing director of Moorfield Group commented that:
“The investment in Domain is one of the few remaining wholly owned assets of substance held in Moorfield Group. Since taking Moorfield Group private in 2001 there has been a gradual realisation of the assets of the Group, allowing for appropriate focus on the expanding assets managed within special purpose vehicles and the Moorfield Real Estate Fund (MREF).”
