The Glasgow School of Art sculpts its future at Skypark

Moorfield Group (Moorfield) announced today The Glasgow School of Art (GSA) has signed a three-year lease for 72,500 sq ft of space at Skypark, Glasgow.

All of the GSA’s Design departments and over 700 people will relocate to Skypark from its Garnethill campus in Glasgow city centre whilst Phase 1 of the School’s ambitious Garnethill Campus redevelopment takes place. GSA staff will be on site from June, with students arriving in September. Departments that will be based on site include Fashion and Textile Design, Product Design, Product Design Engineering, Visual Communications and Architecture. They will join a range of high profile organisations already based at Skypark including O2, Ticketmaster and Lloyd’s Register.

Ian Jones, Project Manager at GSA said “Over the past year the School considered a number of options across the City which could meet our requirements not only in terms of the size and space needed, but also in terms of our determination to maintain the quality of the student experience and the best possible working environment. Skypark meets these requirements, providing high quality studio and office accommodation in one building, with easy transport links to the Garnethhill Campus and the West End.”

Moorfield acquired Skypark in November 2010 on behalf of the Moorfield Real Estate Fund II (MREF II).  The opportunity was identified through Moorfield’s joint venture partnership with Glasgow based Resonance Capital.

Commenting about the first major letting since the acquisition of Skypark, Mark Holmes of Moorfield said “We are delighted to have been able to meet GSA’s urgent requirement for a range of accommodation including teaching, studio and office space all under one roof.  This letting adds another dimension to Skypark and is a further endorsement that Skypark is one of the largest and most flexible business environments in Scotland.”

Angela Higgins of Resonance Capital added “We look forward to welcoming the Glasgow School of Art to Skypark. The park environment offers them a genuine alternative to their core campus and we have worked very closely with the GSA to offer them space and flexibility. Skypark is in a position to offer the right accommodation across all sectors, and the art school forms part of our cohesive plans to build a unique community on site.

Jones Lang LaSalle advised the GSA and Resonance Capital acted for Skypark.
