The Team

Moorfield believes that its investment results are directly related to the quality and diversity of the Company's professionals, and their broad real estate and financial experience and contact base.  Moorfield has, over time, assembled an excellent team of experienced professionals with backgrounds in real estate (investment, development, asset management, planning and sustainability, operational, legal etc), fund management, private equity, corporate finance, debt finance, general finance, accountancy and marketing - all of whom are further supported by a team of administrative personnel.

Executive Board and Operations Committee

Marc E C Gilbard

Marc joined Moorfield in January 1996 and is the Chief Executive Officer. He is a graduate in Estate Management and a Chartered Surveyor who has worked for firms of chartered surveyors and investment banks, including Gerald Eve, Edward Erdman (now Colliers International), Union Bank of Switzerland, NatWest Markets and Goldman Sachs International. Marc was a top rated real estate & equity analyst and advisor between 1989 and 1995 (European Extel Survey and the International Investor Survey). He is a Policy Committee Member of the British Property Federation (BPF), a Member of the Property Advisory Group to the Bank of England, a liaison on real estate to the British Venture Capital Association (BVCA), a Member of the Investment Property Forum (IPF) and a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). In October 2011 the Howard de Walden Estate appointed Marc to its Board as a Non-Executive Director.

Graham B Stanley

Graham joined Moorfield in January 1996 and is the Chief Investment Officer. He is a graduate in Business Administration who has worked for firms of chartered surveyors and investment banks, including Chesterton, Provident Mutual, Hoare Govett, NatWest Markets (where he first worked in partnership with Marc Gilbard) and Goldman Sachs International where he was an Executive Director. Graham has worked in partnership with Marc since 1989 and hence, since that date, shares a similar corporate track record as set out for Marc.

Nick Edwards

Nick joined Moorfield in December 2008 and is the Group Finance Director. He has a degree in History from Durham University. Nick qualified as an ACA with Arthur Andersen, where he worked in the Corporate Treasury Consulting team advising listed companies on their foreign exchange, interest rate and cashflow risk management. He then spent 3 years in Corporate Finance at Deutsche Bank where he was involved in a number of transactions across the IT and Business Services sectors. Before joining Moorfield in 2008, Nick was Finance and Commercial Director of Xchanging’s 2,000 person insurance outsourcing business across the UK, US and India, where as well as Finance he oversaw HR, Legal and Property teams, and negotiated and structured complex outsourcing arrangements. Nick is responsible for group finance including financial and management reporting, banking relationships, and the finance team.

Charles Ferguson Davie

Charlie joined Moorfield in 2005 and is Corporate Director. He has a degree in Modern Languages from Oxford University and prior to joining Moorfield he worked in corporate finance at Lazard in the real estate advisory group. Whilst at Lazard he was part of a market leading team that advised a number of quoted property companies on M&A transactions and private equity groups investing in asset-backed transactions. At Moorfield he is responsible for coordinating the corporate and alternatives assets team's origination, transaction analysis and execution.

Robin Matthews

Robin joined Moorfield in 2007 and represents the Real Estate team on the Operational Committee.  He has a degree (MA) in Economics from Edinburgh University and an MSc in Real Estate Management and he is a qualified Chartered Surveyor. Post-university Robin worked in the Gilts Market at Goldman Sachs before joining Colliers International where, as an Associate Director, he gained experience in a wide range of sectors in the real estate industry, including Investment Consultancy (specialising in the corporate and leisure sectors). Subsequently, Robin worked at London and Capital (a private investment management company), focusing on investment strategy and new opportunities in the real estate sector. At Moorfield his principal responsibilities are coordinating the traditional real estate team’s origination, transaction analysis and execution of those suitable real estate opportunities.

Graham Sidwell

Graham joined Moorfield in November 2000 and is the Off-shore and Regulation Director. He is a graduate in Economics and a Chartered Accountant. He qualified with RSM Robson Rhodes LLP (now Grant Thornton UK LLP), where he became a partner in 1985 and had a variety of senior management roles including responsibility for London and the South-East and was Head of Corporate Finance for a number of years.

Mark Hatcher - (Real Estate Opportunities / Investment Analysis) View Biog

Mark has a degree in Geography and has a Masters in Property Valuation & Law and is a Chartered Surveyor. He has gained experience within several areas of the real estate industry whilst working for CB Hillier Parker including Investment Consultancy and West End Agency and Development. He joined Moorfield Group in June 2002 and his principal responsibility is traditional real estate origination, transaction analysis and execution of real estate opportunities.

Sean Slade - (Origination / Development) View Biog

Sean has a degree in Valuation and Estate Management and is a Chartered Surveyor. Sean worked at Richard Ellis (now CBRE) within the Real Estate Investment and Development Funding Teams. He then spent 5 years at Hill Samuel Asset Management, ultimately as Fund Manager of Hill Samuel Life and HS Pensions Property Funds and was responsible for several hundred million pounds of investment and office/industrial development. He then moved to Grainger plc where he was a Main Board Director with responsibility for commercial and mixed use investment/development and expansion of the company’s equity release business. In 2004 Sean founded Appley (a partnership driven investment and regeneration company) and he has been a consultant at Moorfield since 2011 where he is involved in origination, development and select asset management.

Sadie Chave - (Corporate Opportunities / Investment Analysis/In-house Legals) View Biog

Sadie has a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University and a post-graduate degree in Law. She is a qualified solicitor, having trained at Clifford Chance and practised in their private equity group where she advised private equity houses on acquisitions, disposals, joint ventures, MBOs and IPOs. Sadie joined Moorfield in 2007 where she is predominantly focused on corporate and alternative asset class acquisition analysis, structuring, legals and management.

Ross Netherway - (Corporate Opportunities / Investment Analysis) View Biog

Ross has a degree in Government from Harvard College. Prior to joining Moorfield in 2010 he worked at Macquarie Capital Funds where he was involved in the asset and financial management of a number of portfolio assets. Ross joined Moorfield in 2010 where he is predominantly focused on the corporate and alternative asset class team’s transaction analysis and execution.

Asset Management

Hugh Canham - (Asset Management) View Biog

Hugh has an MA in Property Valuation and Law and is a Chartered Surveyor. He has also obtained the IMC (Investment Management Certificate).  He gained three years property consultancy and national investment experience at Lambert Smith Hampton from 2004 before joining ING Real Estate Investment Management in 2007 where he was portfolio manager for the ING UK Property Income Fund (a Guernsey Property Unit Trust. Hugh joined Moorfield in 2011 where his principal role is asset management.

Mark Holmes - (Asset Management) View Biog

Mark is a Chartered Surveyor. As an Associate Partner of St Quintin Chartered Surveyors, he headed a team responsible for the asset management of a number of substantial portfolios, including Moorfield. Mark joined Moorfield in 1999 where his principal responsibility is asset management.

Paul Makin - (Asset Management) View Biog

Paul has a degree in Property Valuation & Finance and is a Chartered Surveyor. He gained 8 years of investment consultancy experience at CBRE and Kemsley Whitely & Ferris before joining Mapeley in 2001 where he was responsible for investment acquisition and investment asset management. Paul joined Moorfield in September 2006 where his principal responsibility is asset management.

Jeremy Marchant - (Asset Management) View Biog

Jeremy has a degree in Land Administration and is a Chartered surveyor. He also has an RICS Postgraduate Diploma in Property Investment from the College of Estate Management. Before joining Moorfield he worked as a Fund Surveyor and Portfolio Manager for a period of 10 years at Royal & Sun Alliance Property Investments. There he specialised in a range of asset management and investment roles including responsibility for a number of shareholders funds and managed and unit linked funds. He joined Moorfield in May 1999 where his principal responsibility is asset management.

Emma Trinder - (Planning) View Biog

Emma has a degree in Planning, a Diploma in Town Planning and is a Chartered Town Planner. She was a National Director at Jones Lang Lasalle and prior to that a Partner in the Planning and Development team at Drivers Jonas (now Deloitte Drivers Jonas – DJD). Emma has a great deal of experience in bringing development projects, in all sectors, through the planning process. Emma joined Moorfield in April 2008 where her main responsibility at Moorfield is enhancing value through the planning system, assessing the planning potential of new opportunities and being responsible for the sustainability initiatives and agenda.

Hotels and Operational Management

Steve Hall - (Hotels / Leisure and Operations) View Biog

Steve has a degree in Biology from University College London and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with RSM Robson Rhodes LLP (now Grant Thornton UK LLP) becoming a senior manager and specialising in audit and transaction support for a range of businesses. He joined Moorfield in 2008 and his principal responsibility is financial and operational management for the hotel operations.

Shane Harris - (Hotels / Leisure and Operations) View Biog

Shane has a degree in Commerce and is a Certified Accountant. Shane has held a number of senior financial/ strategic positions at companies including Grand Metropolitan PLC and Bass PLC. At Bass PLC he was Managing Director of Holiday Inn Express Hotels, Europe, growing the business from zero to over 140 hotels within 6 years. He has worked with various private equity firms to purchase a number of hotel groups ranging in value from £100 million to £1 billion. At Moorfield, Shane is responsible for overseeing all the hotel and leisure operations.

Niall Southwell - (Development) View Biog

Niall is a Chartered Surveyor. He worked initially as a Quantity Surveyor for John Laing Construction and Amey Group before joining Simons Group as a Commercial Manager in 1997. He has been involved in a large and diverse range of construction activity during his 20 years in the industry. In recent years he has worked as a Project Manager in Simons Developments specialising in town centre retail and mixed use schemes. Niall joined Moorfield in 2007 where his principal responsibility is development management.

Jane Beglin - (Limited Partnership Accountant) View Biog

Jane has a degree in Chemistry from Durham University and is a qualified ACCA accountant having gained experience in such diverse organisations as BT, Total Oil Marine and Kajima UK. Jane joined Moorfield in 2005 as the accountant responsible for the Moorfield Real Estate Funds, having previously held a similar position with Innisfree Ltd, a leading infrastructure investment group. Her responsibilities at Moorfield include all aspects of the financial reporting of the Moorfield Real Estate Funds and their investments.

Isidore Carivalis - (Financial Accountant) View Biog

Isidore has a degree in Business Management and gained accounting and financial management experience in a number of companies after university. He joined Moorfield in 1992 and he is responsible for the accounting and quarterly reporting requirements for a number of the limited partnerships.

Susan Finnie - (Financial Accountant) View Biog

Susan has worked in the real estate industry since 1987. Initially working in real estate management for Scotts Property Management and then Chesterton Property Management she joined Moorfield in 1996. Her responsibilities include a daily treasury management role and she is also responsible for the financial reporting of a number of investments.

Tim Sanderson - (Financial Controller / Company Secretary) View Biog

Tim has a degree in Business Administration and is a Chartered Accountant. He joined the Moorfield in August 1996 as Company Secretary and Financial Controller, having previously held senior financial positions in the areas of commercial property investment and development with Brixton plc and house-building with Charles Church Group.

Terriellen Bird - (Events) View Biog

Terriellen joined Moorfield in 2008 and her principal role is organising and managing the corporate events calendar. She also assists with corporate communications and supports the Marketing Manager implementing asset marketing plans.

Ruth Fenton - (Marketing / PR) View Biog

Ruth has a degree in Marketing and Business Management from Newcastle University and a post graduate diploma in Marketing. Prior to joining Moorfield she worked within product marketing at BMW UK Ltd and went on to a boutique mixed-use property developer where she gained her experience in marketing, events and PR. At Moorfield Ruth is responsible for corporate communications, PR and supporting the asset managers in executing the marketing strategies for each property investment.
